    Noun Phrases Homework


Man Found Dead In Graveyard - 'Man’ is the determiner which leads the start of the headline. ‘Found’ is the pre-modifer which prepares the reader for the head word which is ‘dead’ allowing the reader to know that this is the main point of the story. The post-modifeier 'in graveyard' lets the reader become aware of the setting of the article.

Diana Was Still Alive Hours Before She Died - In this headline, the name 'Diana' is the determiner which tells us who this article is about. 'Was still' are the pre-modifiers which allow us to learn the information of the head word 'alive' which is the main purprose of information of this headline. 'Hours before she died' are the post-modifers which give the reader information of when she was infact still alive.

Flu York City - This headline is different to the previous two as the first word 'Flu' is the head word. It tells the reader what this article is about and is followed by the pre-modifiers 'York City' which gives information of where the flu is spreading and this also stands out to those who may be effected by it. Not like the previous headlines, this one includes a play on words which suggests that this may have come from a tabloid type news paper with a purpose of entertainment rather than seriousness and being straight to the point.

1,200 Killed By Mental Patients - The pre-modifer here is '1,200' which gives the reader the number of people that have been effected and displays that this is most likely going to be a serious matter. The determiner is the word 'killed' which tells us exactly what has happened to this large number of people. 'By mental patients' is the post-modifier and gives us information on who has caused this.

Sick Queen Rushed To Hospital - This headline is a great example of a noun phrase. It uses a determiner 'Sick' which gives us an insight as to what is wrong and a pre-modifer 'Queen' which tells us who this headline concerns. 'Rushed' is the head word here as it informs us that the event happened quickly and so is important because it tells the event that has occured.  The headline also includes a post-modifer 'to hospital' which tells us where exactly the Queen was taken to and empthasises why this is newsworthy. This is a compelete noun phrase and so is catered towards an adult audience to tend to read newspapers in order to come to terms with serious news rather than through entertainment.

Plague Of New Giant Super Rats - This is another great example of a noun phrase headline. In this headline 'Plague' is the determiner and informs the reader what the article will be about. 'Of new' is the pre-modifer which leads onto the head word 'giant' which describes the post-modifier 'super rats'.       

New Way To Delay Aging - 'New' is the determiner allowing us to become aware this this before is yet before known. 'Way to' this the pre-modifier which leads the headline on to it's head word 'delay'. The headline ends with the post-modifier 'aging'.

Volkswagon In Meltdown After Faked Diesel Tests - Here 'Volkswagon' is the determiner and informs the reader as to who the incident concerns. The pre-modifier is 'in' which leads to the head word 'meltdown' allowing us to know of the situtation the company is in. 'After faked deisel tests' is the post-modifer and lets the reader know why/how the indicent has occured.
 
'Ginger Terrorist' Guilty Of Plot To Murder Charles - 'Ginger' is the determiner and gives the reader small background information about the person who this article will be about. 'Terrorist' is the pre-modifier which informs the reader on who this person is and 'guilty' is the head word which gives information on the action that has been out taken in this situation. 'Guilty of plat to murder Charles' is the post-modifer as it tells the reader exactly what has happened to this person.
 
Migration Crisis: Journey To Europe - In this headline 'Migration' is the determiner and 'crisis' is the determiner. Together they inform the reader of the main purpose of the article and what it will be about. 'Journey' is the head word which gives information on what the people concerened are doing. 'To Eurpoe' is the post-modifer which allows the reader to know exactly what is going on.
